Summary
Are you reliable, resilient and enjoy working with people in a hands‑on role?
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is looking to recruit Band 2 Phlebotomists to join our busy Phlebotomy Service, delivering a vital frontline service to patients across our hospital sites.
Working Pattern:
We have multiple part time posts available ranging from 10 hours to 32 hours per week. These posts cover working hours of 7:00am to 6:00pm, 7 days a week, exact hours and posts available will be discussed at interview.
This role is ideal for individuals who are confident working in a fast‑paced NHS environment, take pride in high standards of work, and are comfortable with the physical and emotional demands of a patient‑facing clinical role.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
· Experience in a customer‑facing role, ideally within a caring or service environment
• The ability to work on their own initiative while meeting tight deadlines
• Calmness and attention to detail under pressure
• Good spoken and written English communication skills
• Reliability, flexibility and a strong work ethic
Previous phlebotomy or healthcare experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and competency assessment will be provided.
Phlebotomists provide a blood collection service to both inpatient wards and outpatient clinics, across all three UHL hospital sites.
You will:
· Take routine and urgent blood samples from adult patients (16+)
• Work directly with large numbers of patients each shift
• Communicate calmly and professionally with patients, including those who may be anxious, unwell or needle‑phobic
• Follow strict patient identification, infection prevention and specimen handling procedures
• Work independently from allocated worklists while knowing when to escalate concerns appropriately
This is a high‑volume service, operating 7 days a week, 365 days a year, where accuracy, professionalism and teamwork are essential.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
