Role Purpose
The SEND Teacher will support the strategic and operational development of the college’s SEND provision, ensuring learners with additional needs receive high-quality, personalised support. The role involves identifying, assessing and planning for learners with SEND/SLD, working collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies to promote inclusive practice, emotional wellbeing and learner success.
Learner Cohort
Learners have ASD or Global Delay with sensory and communication needs. Many require support with self and intimate care, transport and safety. All are working within pre-KS1 or KS1 levels in English and Maths and benefit from visual supports, structured environments, sensory activities, group work and access to 1:1 or quiet spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment
Plan and deliver differentiated lessons based on individual needs
Set high expectations and monitor learner progress and outcomes
Use assessment and data to inform teaching and target-setting
Apply specialist approaches, including phonics and multi-sensory learning
Promote positive behaviour in line with college policy
SEND Provision
Support identification, assessment and planning for learners with SEND/SLD
Contribute to EHCP development, reviews and provision planning
Monitor and evaluate interventions to ensure impact
Support learner transitions across the college and beyond
Staff Development
Provide guidance and training on SEND and inclusive practices
Support staff in adaptive teaching and behaviour strategies
Promote a culture of continuous improvement
Collaboration
Work closely with families, carers and external professionals
Maintain accurate records and contribute to required reporting
Safeguarding
Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures
Contribute to risk assessments and learner safety plans
Maintain knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience working with SEND, SLD and complex needs learners
Experience delivering primary/pre-entry level curriculum
Evidence of adaptive teaching and data-driven practice
Knowledge of safeguarding and multi-agency working
Experience of positive handling
Willingness to provide intimate care support
Full UK driving licence
Desirable
Knowledge of Ofsted and national SEND frameworks
Trauma-informed or restorative practice training
Experience supporting staff development
Experience delivering personalised learning pathways
