Summary

This post is a Specialty Doctor level psychiatrist role within the Manchester Community Adult Learning Disability (CALD) Service, delivering expert psychiatric care to adults with learning disabilities and complex needs in community settings. The role combines advanced clinical practice, legal responsibilities, and clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary framework. This role involves a strong balance of clinical complexity, statutory responsibility, and system leadership, supporting some of Manchester’s most vulnerable adults while driving safe, effective, and compassionate learning disability services across the community.

• To undertake specialist comprehensive psychiatric assessment for individuals with intellectual disabilities, often involving complex co-morbidities like Autism, ADHD, and Epilepsy.

To undertake best practice treatment formulation, developing and overseeing holistic management plans that include pharmacological (medication) and psychosocial interventions.

To prescribe and monitor medication and regularly review psychotropic prescriptions to ensure safety and effectiveness, specifically following STOMP guidelines to reduce over-medication.

To lead and support the multi-disciplinary team in crisis and risk management, managing high-risk behaviours and complex disorders to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

To undertake domiciliary and clinical visits by conducting assessments in various community settings, including a patient's home, residential care, or day services.
