Renal Vascular Access Nurse Specialist

To work with the Vascular Access Lead, medical, surgical and nursing team in providing expert advice and support for renal patients within the trust.

Facilitate the planning and delivery of vascular access care.

To work flexibly with or alongside Vascular Access Lead, Renal Consultants, Vascular Consultants, Consultant Radiologist and other teams.

Renal Vascular Access Nurse Specialist provide a structured and multidisciplinary approach in preparing patients with advanced CKD (stages 4–5) to start haemodialysis, promoting self-management, optimizing care, supporting informed decision-making regarding vascular access options, providing expert advice and teaching patients/carers on AV Fistulae care, post operative care and monitoring using ultrasound, managing complications, referring for surgical or radiological intervention, consenting for radiological intervention and making reasonable decision to start haemodialysis using AV Fistulae.
