An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Clinical Biochemistry Department of our ISO15189:2022 accredited laboratory at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. We provide diagnostic and monitoring services to patients across a wide geographical area and support our acute services across both the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole General Hospital within the Trust.

Applicants nearing HCPC registration will be considered for appointment at Trainee Biomedical Scientist level until registration is achieved.

The One Dorset Pathology service unites Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital, and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals to deliver a high-quality, efficient, and consistent service. It is part of the national ‘S6’ pathology network, alongside Hampshire Hospitals, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Salisbury, and Southampton.

This role required HCPC Registration.

Base location - Royal Bournemouth Hospital but you will be required to work across site.

Rota: You will be required to be involved in the out of hours rota

Interview date - Week commencing on Monday, 1st June 2026
The successful applicant will:
• Be required to act in a scientific role in the analysis of blood, body fluids, tissues and cells using specialised laboratory equipment to determine the presence or absence of disease, enabling diagnosis and also to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
• Responsible for delegated tasks, involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a clinical pathology service that enables high standards of patient care.
• Assist in the teaching and development of trainee staff and support workers.
• Expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in Biochemistry as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).







UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
