A General Practitioner (GP) provides primary healthcare services to patients of all ages, diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions, promoting preventive healthcare, and coordinating ongoing patient care. The GP works collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities Conduct patient consultations in person, by telephone, or online. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses. Prescribe medications and treatments appropriately. Perform routine health screenings and physical examinations. Provide preventive healthcare advice and health education. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records. Refer patients to specialists or secondary care when necessary. Monitor patients with long-term conditions. Participate in safeguarding and public health initiatives. Work collaboratively with nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and clinical standards. Requirements and Qualifications Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent). Full registration with General Medical Council (GMC). Completion of GP specialty training. Valid license to practice medicine. Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous professional development. Preferred Skills Experience in primary care or family medicine. Knowledge of electronic medical record systems. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Empathy and excellent interpersonal skills. Working Conditions Work settings may include GP surgeries, clinics, community health centers, or telemedicine services. Flexible working hours may include evenings or weekends.
