The Reuse Shop at the Tyseley Household Recycling Centre (HRC) in Birmingham is operated by Community Reuse. Reusable items are collected from Birmingham’s HRRCs, operated by Veolia on behalf of Birmingham City Council, and transferred to the shop where they are assessed, tested, and prepared for resale to the public.
Role Purpose
The Reuse Shop Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the Birmingham reuse service. This includes leading operations at the Tyseley Reuse Shop and overseeing collections from multiple HRRC sites.
The role holder will ensure the service operates safely, efficiently, and commercially, delivering excellent customer service while meeting financial and environmental objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Reuse Shop
Deliver agreed financial targets and ensure commercial performance
Manage stock control, pricing, and merchandising to maximise sales
Lead, supervise, and motivate shop staff, including rota planning
Coordinate and organise collections from HRRC sites
Handle customer enquiries and resolve service issues effectively
Maintain high standards of shop layout, presentation, and display
Ensure all items are appropriately checked, tested, and safe for sale
Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant working environment
Provide operational cover for collections when required, including driving a 3.5t Luton van
Note the shop is open 7 days a week therefore weekend and bank holiday working will be required
Qualifications & Experience (Desirable)
Proven retail management experience, ideally within the charity/third sector (or equivalent)
Full UK driving licence
Confident IT user with basic administrative skills
Personal Qualities
Strong commercial awareness and decision-making skills
Honest, reliable, and accountable
A collaborative team player with a positive attitude
Hardworking with a proactive approach
Committed to delivering excellent customer service
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills
