Summary
Assistant Psychologist
Fixed Term = 12 months
To enhance the provision of a Clinical Neuropsychology service to individuals with Stroke and to their carers, working as a member of the Neuropsychology service.
To provide psychological assessments including standardised neuropsychological assessments and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical
psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
To participate in the preparation and delivery of group education programmes, under the
supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
We are looking for an assistant psychologist to the Acute Stroke Service .
The role is based primarily in the hospital where the Clinical Neuropsychology team working alongside the friendly Community Neuro-Rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team. Referrals are received from a number of sources including the Croydon University Hospital
neurologists and stroke service, and community sources such as GPs and social workers. The referrals are for a range of neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, brain tumours, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease. The role includes administrative duties such as carrying out tasks related to data collection and analysis, arranging appointments and other office duties. It also involves direct clinical work. There will be regular supervision from a qualified clinical
psychologist, offering the opportunity to develop clinical skills in acute stroke, knowledge and experience. There will be opportunities to carry out psychological interviews, mood screens, neuropsychological assessments using standardised tools and facilitating psycho-educational groups.
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon.
These include:
• Croydon University Hospital
• Purley Hospital
• The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Thornton Heath
• Community bases at Purley, Sanderstead, New Addington, Broad Green, Woodside
• A minor injuries unit in New Addington
