Applied Sciences Technician
Full-time, 35 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technician to join the technical team at Abertay University
The technical team span a large area of the school and do work in every department. As part of this vibrant team, your day-to-day role would be varied and exciting. You will provide support to the technical team and become a key part of the university.
Key Duties:
As part of a technical support team you will be involved in the preparation, delivery and development of practical class sessions.
Organise, set out and clear up practical class experiments.
Provide guidance and support to colleagues through on-the-job training/coaching in the use of equipment and specialist techniques.
Demonstrate and advise staff and students on matters relating to specialist laboratory techniques and use of equipment.
Give advice on Health and Safety to personnel entering the laboratory and ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and laboratory rules are followed.
Write and update risk assessments and chemical hazard databases
Develop practical class protocols and trial experiments in conjunction with the technical team leader and academic staff members.
Write and amend class methods.
Receipt delivery of goods and equipment where necessary
Coordinate disposal of hazardous materials, equipment and biological waste.
Ensure laboratories and preparation rooms are clean and tidy.
Preparing and carrying out a range of equipment maintenance, repairs and servicing, ensuring instrumentation is available and functional to enable laboratories to run successfully and providing information booklets for equipment usage. Work with colleagues to regularly maintain high specification equipment
The duties of the post outlined above are not exhaustive, and the post holder will be expected to be cooperative and flexible, undertaking such other duties as may be reasonably required of a member of technical staff in the University.
