Summary
The Consultants operate a Paediatrician/ neonatal consultant of the week rota for the Childrens wards. The Paediatrician of the week is responsible for all paediatric in-patient Paediatric admissions during the week and for all Paediatric emergencies during regular working hours, with out of hours on-call shared amongst the consultant colleagues. Attendance at morning and evening handover is expected. Clinics are cancelled during the Duty Paediatrician week to provide full ward / emergency cover. There is a separate consultant covering the neonatal unit from 9 AM to 5 PM during the working week and a split oncall rota. The neonatal consultant is expected to be resident oncall from 5-7pm and non-resident till 0900 hrs the following day, available to attend any emergencies. All paediatric and neonatal consultants partake in a shared rota covering the paediatric assessment unit 0900-1700hrs; 5 days/ wk.
