Summary
Mobile Plant Operative
Location: Rotherham, S63
Pay Rate: £15.06 per hour
Contract Type: Ad Hoc Opportunities Available
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off rotating shift pattern (5:30am – 5:30pm)
Smart Solutions are recruiting for an experienced Mobile Plant Operative to join a busy waste management and recycling operation based in Rotherham. This is a key role within a high-performing site where safety, compliance, and operational excellence are central to daily activity.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates with strong mobile plant experience who are confident working in a fast-paced, regulated environment and contributing to continuous improvement across site operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operate mobile plant machinery safely and efficiently to load and sort waste materials.
Ensure full compliance with site environmental permits and municipal contract requirements.
Work in line with SHEQ policies, including reporting close calls, incidents, and safety observations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including site audits and compliance checks.
Maintain strong working relationships with management, supervisors, and operational teams.
Carry out accurate stock control and reporting of contract and non-contract waste.
Ensure compliance with company procedures, policies, and relevant legislation.
Undertake light maintenance of equipment where required.
Support reviews of maintenance activity, cost control, KPI performance, and behavioural safety.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the site.
Carry out fly treatment duties when required.
Provide cover for reception hall operative duties as needed.
Essential Requirements
Previous mobile plant experience (e.g. FLT, telehandler, loading shovel, RoRo, TUG).
Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Knowledge of Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) operations.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong customer service and organisational skills.
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
Previous experience in waste management or recycling environments.
Fire Marshal or First Aid qualification.
CITB plant certifications (loading shovel, wheeled 360, telehandler).
Basic mechanical or plant maintenance skills.
Logistics or site operations experience.
Understanding of environmental compliance within waste operations.
IT and computer literacy.
