Who these terms of use are for

These terms of use are for members of the public using the Work Hub service.

They set out the standards for using Work Hub, including how to contact us.

There are separate terms and conditions for employers.

What this service does

This service gives tailored information to help you with jobs and careers.

It does not give advice about benefits or any other subject.

Each tool in this service has a start page which clearly explains its purpose. This appears at the start of each session before any content is generated.

Who we are

We are the Work Hub service, part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Some tools in the service may be built or supported by our trusted partners:

Who this service is intended for

This service is aimed at people aged 16 and over.

If you are under 16 and looking for guidance, please visit National Careers Service (opens in a new tab) or Careers Wales (opens in a new tab). These services offer dedicated support to young people.

What you can use the service for

You can use this service to:

• search, save and apply for jobs
• explore job and career ideas
• get tailored information about jobs, careers and training
• make or improve a CV
• get help for job applications and interviews
• find trusted links to other support
• explore job markets

How this service uses AI (artificial intelligence)

Sometimes the service uses AI (artificial intelligence) to give you an answer.

AI content is not official government, legal, financial or HR advice. You should not rely on it as such.

The information generated by AI might not always be correct.

Answers may be:

• false
• incomplete
• misleading
• not reflective of recent events or information

They are not legally binding.

The AI answers are automated and not checked by a person before you see them. You should always check important things are accurate before you act on them.

Your responsibilities

The information the service gives is for your own personal use. By using the service, you accept these terms of use and the privacy policy.

Keep your account details safe. If you think someone knows your password, change it straight away.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the personal information you provide in your CVs. You retain any intellectual property rights in your CV and are responsible for it.

You must not:

• share or publish content from this site, including AI-generated answers, as if they are government policy, legal advice or official employment guidance
• break the law
• try to damage, hack or disrupt the service
• use the service to cause any harm
• try to get around safety rules
• use someone else's account
• bypass or interfere with filters designed to keep the service safe
• enter inputs intended to trick, manipulate or disrupt the service
• use automation to distort performance or analytics
• pretend to be someone else, including a government employee
• share or post content in a way that could mislead other people
• use the information for business or commercial purposes
• harvest data for business or commercial purposes
• distribute misleading, inappropriate or unlawful material

You also must not post content, or try to make the system produce content which is:

• illegal
• prohibited
• threatening
• harmful
• offensive
• malicious
• inappropriate

These rules support UK law, including the:

• Computer Misuse Act 1990
• Online Safety Act 2023
• Equality Act 2010

If you do any of these things, then it is entirely at your own risk and is not endorsed by the UK Government.

We allow reasonable use of computer tools to copy or scrape information. If you make use of a large amount of data in any way, you must attribute it to DWP.

We may impose limits to make sure that the service can run properly.

What we are not responsible for

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is not responsible for:

• how you use this service
• any outputs produced by this service

We do not guarantee that the information on this site is accurate, complete or up to date. You should consider getting specialist advice before relying on any outputs from the service.

The service contains links to other websites. We do not approve or control these websites and are not responsible for their content.

We are also not liable if the service is unavailable at any time.

Equality and fairness

This service aims to treat everyone fairly. It gives tailored information to all users, whatever their background or situation is. We have completed an Equality Impact Assessment.

If you believe the service has treated you unfairly or given biased information, report it to us using the details in the Contact us section.

Data and privacy

Our legal basis for processing your data is public task. DWP has a public task to provide employment-related services.

We only use personal information where it is necessary to provide job and career support. You can use most of the service without giving any personal information.

Some tools need you to give personal information - for example, so that you can build a CV with those details. If you apply for a job through the service, we share your details with that employer. No one else will be able to see your personal information.

In our privacy policy, we explain:

• how we use your data
• your rights about your personal information
• how long we keep several types of data for

In short:

• we collect the information you type in, plus basic technical details to run the service
• we keep anonymised records of things like your chat history and account activity for up to 24 months
• we keep information only for as long as we need it, then we delete or anonymise it

If you break the rules

If you do not follow these terms of use, we may:

• warn you
• end your session
• limit your access to the service
• delete your account
• remove anything you have added
• report serious misuse to the right authorities
• take any necessary legal action

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms of use.

If we make a big change, we will tell you what has changed and ask you to agree again before you use the service.

Law that applies

These terms of use follow the laws of England and Wales. The courts in England and Wales will handle any disputes.

Taking part in research

We may contact you to ask if you'd like to take part in research, such as interviews, surveys and usability testing. It's up to you whether you take part. You can opt out when we contact you.

Report a job advert

If you notice an issue with a job, use the 'Report this job' link which is on each job advert.

Report an answer from the AI work assistant

If you think the AI work assistant has given wrong, confusing or harmful information, report it to us using the Contact link at the very bottom of every page. We will reply if it's appropriate.

When to contact the data protection officer

Contact DWP's data protection officer (Personal information charter) to:

• ask questions about how we use your personal information
• report harmful or incorrect information generated in this service

Do not contact the data protection officer to ask for a copy of information that DWP holds about you.

Instead, Request your personal information from the Department for Work and Pensions (opens in a new tab).
