Emergency services incidents
Whenever the emergency services are called to an incident on the railway there are inevitably delays. We are working hard to reduce their occurrence and the subsequent disruption to services.
The emotional, human and financial costs of deaths on the railway are disproportionately high as they can take place in view of passengers, station staff and drivers and result in considerable disruption to services.
What we’re doing to reduce these incidents
If the emergency services are called to an incident on the railway we must follow a strict procedure. This will include restricting all train movements in the area and the deployment of specialist teams that will work as quickly as possible to get the railway reopened.
While our efforts in this area are focussed on prevention, we work closely with the British Transport Police and the rest of the rail industry to improve our procedures and minimise the amount of time that rail services are disrupted.
