The railway is vital to Britain’s economy, creating jobs and business opportunities – and it’s a team effort between us, the rest of the rail industry and our contractors to help keep the economy on track. In this section find out more about who we do business with and how much we spend on procuring goods, services and payments relating to railway disruptions.
Running the railway requires us to work with a lot of suppliers. We need to work together and collaborate effectively in order to provide the best service possible.
In order to do this, we are providing future workbank visibility for all of our suppliers so that we can work better with them to review and smooth the workbank. And we have also signed up to the Prompt Payment Code and The Procurement Pledge which highlight the values and behaviours we want to embody.
Rail Data Marketplace (RDM) is the central platform for finding and sharing rail data. It brings together rail data sources and related services in one place. It offers a simple and open way to share data from across the rail sector and beyond.

The railway stretches across most of Britain and impacts millions of lives. It contributes to the country’s economic and social development, bringing jobs, transport links and other benefits to local communities.
Safety is our foremost priority in operating the railway. That’s why we have a robust series of metrics that we use to ensure we’re doing everything we can to ensure the overall safety of passengers, workforce and the public. Find out more below.
