In partnership with Derby City Council, we’ve transformed RTC into a centre for enterprise and research. Our 34,000 sq ft of office and conference space has attracted global occupiers like Hitachi Europe, Siemens Mobility, Belcan Engineering and Quest Engineering, enhancing the city’s reputation for rail innovation.
This is further supported by the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Railway Research and Education, based on site. The centre advances railway aerodynamics through the Transient Aerodynamic Investigation (TRAIN) rig, a unique facility, upgraded with £1.5m of UKRI funding and now part of the National Wind Tunnel Facility.
RTC is also home to major operators such as Loram UK, which maintains Network Rail’s Infrastructure Monitoring fleet, essential for the safe operation of the UK rail network. The site also supports skills and employment through specialist training providers, while the ID Business Centre offers start-ups and growing enterprises flexible, affordable office space with access to expertise, specialist equipment, funding, and graduate talent backed by the University of Derby.
