Forth Banks is a 100-acre regeneration opportunity in Newcastle, under multiple ownerships.

The overall site has the potential to deliver up to 4,500 new homes, aiming to meet or exceed the 25% affordable target. At the centre of this is the 15-acre, Network Rail-owned Forth Goods Yard.

The Forth Goods Yard site is the enabler to the wider project and its development is unlocking a part of the city which has been inaccessible for decades. Here, we’re delivering up to 600 homes, a new 650 space multi-storey car park, station improvements and new workspaces alongside retail and commercial space. Public realm improvements include the conversion of the former branch line to a ‘New York’ style highline, to provide a safe walking and cycle route west of the city.

Network Rail entered into a Collaboration Agreement with Homes England, the Combined Authority and Newcastle City Council to drive forward the vision, and Platform4 is now leading the planning and infrastructure works for the redevelopment area.

The regeneration and development of Forth Goods Yard is centred around Newcastle station and is pivotal to a wider Station Gateway Project, which delivers multiple transport and economic benefits.
