With the Easter school holidays approaching, Network Rail is issuing a renewed safety appeal for young people to stay safe around the railway.

Network Rail engineers seized the rare opportunity of the closure of Scotland’s busiest station to deliver an extensive package of maintenance and renewals that would ordinarily have taken around ten months to complete.

A celebrated railway sculpture that has been stored away for over two decades has been given a new lease of life at the heart of Springburn.

Network Rail will reopen platforms 1-6 at Glasgow Central on Wednesday 25 March, restoring all train routes through the high-level station following the Union Street fire.

Network Rail, working closely with Glasgow City Council, will reopen the upper Hope Street exit of Glasgow Central from Sunday 22 March, giving passengers another way to safely leave the station.  

Glasgow Central high-level will partially reopen on Wednesday 18 March, allowing a return of some ScotRail and cross-border train services.

Glasgow Central Station’s high‑level platforms will remain closed until at least Wednesday 18 March, as demolition and safety work continues at the fire‑damaged building on Union Street.
