A note from Paul Hickey, Managing Director for RAPID
In this forward programme, RAPID sets out the key activities for the year 2024-25. As we continue to face the challenges of population growth, water scarcity and climate change, RAPID’s work across the sector to facilitate the timely and co-ordinated development of large-scale water resources infrastructure schemes, is as important as ever.
In the year ahead, RAPID is continuing with an ambitious programme. First, the gated process, which has been effective in identifying strategic water resource solutions to help meet the water needs of the future, will continue to be a key focus. Second, we will continue to engage in the current water resources planning processes and provide oversight and scrutiny. This includes looking at how we improve the strategic planning for the whole sector, and how the intersection of planning and regulators could be better organised for the benefits of consumers, communities and the environment. Third, during 2024-25 we will continue to prioritise commercial frameworks and procurement.
Stakeholder engagement will remain of paramount importance, across all strands of activity. We will continue to engage with national stakeholders to develop relationships, seek views and understand their perspectives, including Welsh stakeholders.
In the autumn we will publish our annual progress review, which sets out our performance in 2023-24. This document will review our work against the key aims and activities as set out in the forward programme for that year.
