About us

Britain’s new high-speed railway

HS2 is one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the UK. To manage it, the government set up High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd.

We bring together the designers and contractors needed to build the railway. We buy land and property to build, maintain and operate it, and we award contracts worth billions of pounds.

We’re a non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Transport. The Secretary of State for Transport funds the project.

We must meet technical, safety and environmental standards and show that we do.
