Details
A previous version of the dataset (published May 2025) included Off-Farm Income averages in real terms. These had been calculated incorrectly and have therefore been removed. Updated real terms values will be included in the 2024/25 publication, which will be released Summer 2026. Where real terms figures are referenced in the statistical commentary, these should be disregarded.
Defra has been reviewing the way we collect and measure data on Farm Household Income for England only. A paper summarising this review is available at Farm Household Income: methodology.
This release uses information collected in the Farm Business Survey (FBS) to present data on Off-Farm Income in England. This release provides the proportion of farms earning each type of Off-Farm Income as well as average (median) total Off-Farm Income (equivalised and unequivalised). Breakdowns are shown for farm type, farm business size, tenure type and economic performance band. This release includes data from 2021/22 to 2023/24.
