A railcard is a membership you pay for to get access to discounted train tickets. It’s a great investment because if you use your discount a few times, you can easily make your money back in savings.
The Senior Railcard allows you to enjoy cheap train tickets. It's available to 60+ year olds and offers 1/3 off travel. It is also a national railcard, so you can use it to travel with many other train companies in the UK.
How much is a Senior Railcard?
It costs £35 for a one-year membership, and £80 for 3 years.
The Senior Railcard gives you a 1/3 discount, so if you use it enough times, you should be able to make your money back through cheaper train tickets!
Senior Railcard Renewal
Your railcard will show its expiry date on the cover. When it's time to renew, you can renew your Senior railcard online by simply purchasing a new 1-year (£35) or 3-year (£80) membership.
Is this right for me?
The Senior Railcard offers a 1/3 off selected train tickets in Great Britain.
A cheaper railcard for seniors is the Club 50 Railcard, which gives you up to 20% off travel for £25 a year! The major difference is that Club 50 is valid on Greater Anglia and Stansted Express trains only.
What train tickets can I get a discount on?
You can get discounts on many fares across Great Britain, great if you want to travel in First Class for less.
The minimum fare for Anytime Day Travelcards is £22.60. If your journey includes travel with a bus or ferry, the railcard discount may be smaller than 1/3.
Are there any time restrictions?
There are no restrictions on weekends and bank holidays. However, this railcard is not valid during the morning Peak on weekdays for journeys fully inside the Network Railcard area (London and South East of England).
There are some UK stations which do allow travel on select services in the morning peak.
Day trips
Enjoy 1/3 off Standard and First Class Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance tickets, which means the earlier you book, the more you can save.
Advance tickets are the cheapest of the three. They’re first come, first served, all you need to do is just search your journey and we’ll show you our cheapest available ticket.
Frequent trips
This can’t be used with season tickets.
Senior Railcard offers

Yes you can, but it's risky as you will need to ensure you have your railcard with you on the day of travel, otherwise you'll be liable for a penalty fare.
You can book train tickets for other people with group railcards (Family and Friends Railcard, Network Railcard and Two Together Railcard) but there are restrictions. If you book for someone else with your own solo railcard, they might be charged a penalty fare for travelling with a discounted ticket without a valid railcard.

The only national railcard you can use to buy monthly season tickets, is the 16-17 Saver Railcard, which gives 50% off travel.

- 26-30 Railcard - minimum fare £12 before 10am on weekdays
