Whether you're looking for relaxation, excitement or a bit of both, Great Yarmouth is just the ticket. This fun-loving resort has everything you need for a great family day out, from 15 miles of sandy beaches to state-of-the-art theme parks with white-knuckle rollercoasters.
Getting to the beach
The beach is a 25-minute walk from the station, so it's recommended to take a bus or taxi. A special summer bus service called the Wherry 100 will be running to the beach and town centre daily from 6 July to 31 August 2025. The service provides regular buses between 9.45 and 18.15 and a single fare is £2. View timetable.
Great Yarmouth isn't only a seaside resort. It's also a busy, vibrant town with a good shopping centre partnering national chain stores with independents. At the centre of town is the Market Gates mall which houses 40 shops, including Debenhams, New Look and JD Sports. For a more boutique shopping experience there's the Victoria Arcade, populated by independent retailers, ranging from contemporary clothes stores to florists and galleries. For traditional seaside goods (including the obligatory buckets and spades!), there are plenty of shops and kiosks on pedestrianised Regent Road and the seafront Golden Mile.
A large open-air market takes place In Great Yarmouth every Wednesday and Saturday (as well as Fridays in summer), with over 100 stalls selling homewares, garden accessories and more. It's located right in the centre of town.

Founded in 1101, this is the largest parish church in Norfolk and one of Great Yarmouth's most historic buildings. A free heritage exhibition shows the church's central role in the history of the town.
The town's administrative headquarters is a classic example of Victorian Gothic architecture, built in the 1880s. It has a beautiful clock tower which was fully restored in 2008. Tours of the interior are occasionally available by appointment.

This is a classic seaside garden in the heart of the famous Golden Mile. In summer it's ablaze with colour in its anchor-shaped flowerbeds.

Located at the southern end of the seafront, Wellington Pier has a state-of-the-art amusement arcade with video games, simulator rides, slot machines, bowling lanes and more. There's also a café, gift shop and ice cream parlour.
Taking tea by the sea is a time-honoured pastime and Great Yarmouth has plenty of places to enjoy this quintessentially British tradition. Of course, if your preferred refreshment is a cup of cappuccino or espresso, that's no problem either with a wide selection of coffee houses across the town, including branches of national chains such as Starbucks and Costa. Bookworms will love Kirsty's Cakery, based in Black Beauty author Anna Sewell's former home. For the true seaside café experience, head down to Marine Parade and North Drive where you'll find friendly, family-run establishments, including the Sunshine Cafe and Munchies.
There's a vast array of places to dine out in Great Yarmouth, ranging from high-end restaurants and continental-style bistros to pizzerias, pubs and ethnic eateries. Strollers Restaurant at the Prom Hotel is a spacious and contemporary with a relaxed atmosphere and The Terrace at the Imperial Hotel on North Drive offers stunning sea views. Just a short walk from the railway station across the River Bure is The Seafood, specialising in fresh fish dishes. As for traditional fish and chips, there are several 'eat in' options, including a branch of the world-famous Harry Ramsden's, located on Marine Parade close to Wellington Pier and the Sea Life Centre.
Fish and chips is, of course, Great Yarmouth's fast food speciality with plenty of places to choose from along the seafront and in the town. But there are also lots of other take away options, including branches of McDonalds, KFC etc, as well as independent, family-run establishments selling traditional seaside treats.
