Where is Sheringham in England
Seaside Sheringham is in Norfolk in the East of England, just 25 miles north of Norwich and seaside neighbour to Cromer. London to Sheringham by train is easy - you can travel to Sheringham from London by train via Norwich in around 3 hours.
What makes Sheringham special
Walking in the High Street, with its patriotic bunting, you’ll feel you’ve stepped back to a quieter, calmer time. In fact, if you are here in September you will really step back in time when the town and North Norfolk Railway host a superb 1940s weekend. Expect to see a lot of cosplay!
Festivals in Sheringham
Every May there’s the Cromer and Sheringham Crab and Lobster Festival to enjoy and look out for performances by the Sheringham ‘Lobster Potties’ dancing the traditional Norfolk Morris style.
The Sheringham ‘Lobster Potties’ were formed in 1986 and went on to start the Potty Festival, held in July and which now attracts groups from across the UK and Europe. Using the Lobster Public House (of course!) as their headquarters, and being considered by some as ‘potty’, the name Lobster Potties was obvious! And, of course, lobsters are caught in pots.
What to do in Sheringham
Sheringham is the place to reach new heights!
On the main street, you’ll love the Sheringham Little Theatre which has shows and cinema all year round.
Ride the North Norfolk Railway, known as The Poppy Line, from Sheringham. Wave at the players on the Sheringham Golf Course as you head out to Kelling Heath on your way to Georgian market town Holt.
Visit Kelling Heath, built at the end of the last Ice Age when a glacier ran out of momentum and deposited everything within it onto the landscape.
Best views in Sheringham
Walk along the seafront at Sheringham to the boating lake and then head up again along the clifftop to the hilltop Coast Guard Station and you’ll be enjoying one of the best golf course views in the country.
Just under the sea in front of you is the longest chalk reef in the world! There’s a scuba trail you can enjoy – details on boards at the seafront. Equally adventurous is learning to stand up paddleboard with Sheringham SUP Shack.
An alternative walk is to go to the National Trust Sheringham Park and enjoy the landscape park and gardens designed by Humphry Repton, the wild garden and clifftops. Head to the Gazebo or climb the viewing tower for a fantastic view along the coast to Cley-next-the-Sea and Blakeney Point.
One more walk: Climb up Beeston Bump at Sheringham and revel in the coastline views. This was the site of a second world war secret listening Y Station which linked to Bletchley Park.

There are fabulous year-round nature trails to be enjoyed from Sheringham, south to the Runtons and its prehistoric rockpools, or enjoy magnificent coastal views at Beeston Bump or National Trust Sheringham Park. Take the North Norfolk Railway on its Christmas Lights Spectacular.

You can get to Sheringham by train from London Liverpool Street station, the journey takes around 3 hours 11 minutes, and has 1 change at Norwich station. Our trains are accessible and feature free Wi-fi and plug points in-between seats. First Class and catering are available on most of our London to Norwich intercity services.
