Greater Anglia is advising cyclists taking part in the Dunwich Dynamo ride that they will not be able to transport their bicycles back to London by rail after the event.

The overnight ride takes place from Saturday 25 to Sunday 26 July, with large numbers of cyclists expected to travel from London to the Suffolk coast.

There are six cycle spaces on each of Greater Anglia’s intercity trains, which is not enough to accommodate the large number of cyclists who take part in the ride.

On Saturday 25 July, the usual limit of six cycles per train will apply on the mainline. Cyclists must reserve a space in advance, and cycles without reservations will not be permitted to travel.

Six cycles will also be permitted on local services on a first-come, first-served basis. However, anyone then travelling on to mainline Intercity services will need to show a specific bike reservation.

Cycles will not be permitted on intercity services on Sunday 26 July, or on local services between Lowestoft and Ipswich and between Lowestoft and Norwich on both Sunday 26 and Monday 27 July.

“We are advising Dunwich Dynamo cyclists to plan ahead and make alternative arrangements to transport their bikes back to London after the ride.

“These restrictions are in place because our trains have limited cycle space, and we need to keep passengers safe, protect space on board and maintain a reliable service for everyone travelling.

“We would like to thank cyclists and organisers in advance for their cooperation and understanding.”

This advice reflects the more coordinated approach being developed across GBR Anglia, with c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia now working under one leadership team to improve planning, strengthen day-to-day coordination and keep services running safely and reliably for passengers.
