The latest episode of Life on Rails has been released, with Jamie Burles, Managing Director of GBR Anglia, joining Lucy Wright and Dom Rosso to discuss Anglia’s journey towards Great British Railways.
The fifth episode of series three, titled Anglia’s journey to Great British Railways, level crossing safety and keeping trains moving, is presented by Lucy Wright and Dom Rosso from Greater Anglia’s Corporate Affairs team.
In the episode, Jamie discusses the recent launch of the unified leadership team bringing together c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia, and explains what closer working between track and train means for passengers, communities and the wider region.
The new leadership structure is part of the wider transition towards Great British Railways and is designed to support faster, more coordinated decision-making across the network, while building on the strong performance already delivered across Anglia.
Jamie Burles, Managing Director of GBR Anglia, said:
“Great British Railways is about creating a more joined-up railway, with track and train working more closely together for passengers, people and partners.
“In Anglia, we are already getting on with that by bringing c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia closer together through GBR Anglia.
“This is about building on strong performance, making faster decisions and creating a railway that is even better placed to support the east of England.”
The episode also features Shenel Bullock, Network Rail Anglia’s Route Health and Safety Manager, who joins Lucy and Dom to discuss level crossing safety and the No Second Chances campaign.
Shenel explains the serious risks of distraction and misuse at level crossings, the impact near misses can have on train drivers and frontline railway colleagues, and why people should always stop, look, listen and follow the signs before crossing the railway.
Greater Anglia’s Head of Fleet Operations, Gemma Browne, also joins the episode to talk about her career journey, the teams working behind the scenes, and what it takes to keep trains moving safely and reliably every day.
Gemma discusses her move into the railway from the prison service, the importance of transferable skills, and her pride in leading teams in a traditionally male-dominated part of the industry.
In News in Spotlight, Lucy and Dom also discuss recent station upgrades across the network, following a £1.4 million project to repaint 29 stations across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.
The episode also covers Greater Anglia’s sustainability work, including how more than 100,000kg of food waste has been collected and recycled across the network in the past year.
Dom Rosso, Greater Anglia’s Senior Media, PR and Communications Manager, said:
“This is a really timely episode of Life on Rails, giving listeners a clear and accessible explanation of Anglia’s journey towards Great British Railways and what closer working between track and train means in practice.
“It also shines a light on the people behind the railway, from the teams helping to keep trains moving safely and reliably, to those leading vital safety campaigns across the network.
“From integration to level crossing safety and fleet operations, this episode gives passengers a proper look behind the scenes of the railway.”
