Title TOF-CT, Time-of-Flight Calibration Tool; a graphical Python application for calibration of neutron powder diffraction instruments
Contributors
Abstract TOF-CT (Time-of-Flight Calibration Tool) is a standalone, GUI-based Python application designed for the calibration of neutron time-of-flight powder diffraction instruments, the principal output of which is a table of refined DIFC values for every detector pixel on a given instrument, obtained by cross correlation of observed Bragg peak positions against any user-supplied set of powder diffraction Standard peak positions. The table may be exported as a Mantid-readable DiffCal.h5 file, or an Offsets.cal file, that may be used as part of the normal Mantid powder diffraction data reduction routines. TOF-CT provides live dynamic overlays of Standard peak positions on both 2D heatmaps of the raw spectra arrays and on 1D line plots of any individual spectrum in either TOF, d-spacing or momentum transfer (Q). Changes in DIFC for any spectrum can be entered by hand in the UI’s table, or refined automatically using the built-in cross correlation routine, updating the peak positions in TOF or shifting the spectra in d-spacing or Q on any open 1D or 2D plot. These features allow complete user control of the calibration workflow, enabling better understanding of measurement- or instrument-specific features in the data that potentially affect accurate and precise calibration.
