6TD Introduction

SEIS-UK maintains 23 Guralp CMG-6TDs, as well as a variety of ancillary equipment to power, deploy and perform data recovery with. The 6TD is a very robust and easily deployed instrument, being small, light-weight, and having integral data storage. The masses do not require locking or unlocking, and data recovery is to an external hard drive which can be performed whilst the instrument is still buried. The 6TDs are 30sec instruments capable of a maximum sampling rate of 200sps. Due to the internal noise of the instrument being higher than the 40TD, the 6TD is best suited to local seismicity studies or tomography, rather than, for example, receiver functions or SKS.

Much of the information presented in this page is from Guralp.

Shipping information

Guralp 6TDs ship in specially made packing cases that hold up to five instruments and their associated cables. The cases also feature power and communication hubs to allow one computer to communicate with all of a cases instruments to allow easy pre-deployment configuration.

Most projects use one or two 20W solar panels per instrument, details of which can be found on the power in the field pages. 12V batteries (usually car batteries) should be provided by the user.

SEIS-UK is able to offer advice on the appropriate number of solar panels and batteries necessary for your period and latitude of deployment.

Instrument box dimensions 960mm x 510mm x 450mm
