How To Set Up A Solar Panel
This website is a reference guide to the installation of 20W solar panels; both old framed, unframed, and new framed solar panels. The installation of a solar panel in a field locality requires the creation of a sturdy frame base, and then the attachment of the solar panels to this unit. The standard methodologies for the creation of a typical base frame, and the installation of the different types of solar panels supplied by SEIS-UK for fieldwork are outlined within these pages.
It is accepted that due to the vast array of global locations SEIS-UK solar panels are deployed for fieldwork, the installation procedure for a standard panel will most likely require site specific modifications. There are many variations of frame set ups that have been successfully deployed in the field, where site security (from animals and surrounding community), terrain conditions (bedrock), weather (snow, rain, flooding, dust) and the period of the project are considered. This website also presents a series of good practice guidance and examples of solar panels set up across past SEIS-UK projects to show how variations and additional modifications can be applied to panel set up in various conditions.
All users are expected to attend a training course (usually 1 day) with SEIS-UK prior to going to the field. These instructions should be used after training to ensure correct use of the equipment and to avoid instrument damage or failure in the field.
