I have lived in Bradwell on Sea, one mile from the Magnox Bradwell site for more than 30 years, and therefore have a deep personal interest in the effects of the site on the local area, where I am heavily involved in managing the Bradwell community shop. I have previously chaired the parish council and the village hall committee.

My career began as a mechanical engineer with GEC back in the 1960s, spending some time in their ‘Atomic Energy’ division working on a tender for a nuclear power station for Japan. I subsequently joined the City University in London as a lecturer in mechanical engineering, which gave me the exciting opportunity to carry out research into explosion hazards on offshore oil rigs, acting as a consultant to the Health and Safety Executive.

I have sailed with my wife and family on the river blackwater, up the east coast, and across the North Sea for more than 50 years, often using Bradwell site as a familiar guiding mark. My other interests include walking, cycling, and ballroom dancing.
