I have recently retired after 46 years in the nuclear industry, 38 of those years I worked at Dungeness and the last eight years I have worked in senior corporate roles.

I started work as an apprentice at the Dungeness A and B site after leaving school. During this apprenticeship I gained a qualification in mechanical engineering. After completing my apprenticeship, I worked in the maintenance department of Dungeness A.

In 1985 I moved to Dungeness B and undertook training to become a nuclear physicist, this involved going back to university to gain a physics degree. After carrying out the nuclear physicist role for a number of years I moved into the operations department of Dungeness B.

I stayed in the operations department for 14 years, when I started in operations I trained to be a reactor control engineer, then I carried out roles such as the plant engineer, control room supervisor and shift manager.

I then moved into management positions on Dungeness B, here I covered the operations manager, technical and safety manager, plant manager before becoming the station director.

After leaving Dungeness eight years ago, I ran EDFs nuclear generation health, safety and environmental department at the corporate office in Gloucester. Having started off running this in just the nuclear generation side of the business, I then led the integration of it into the whole of EDFs UK business.

The last two years I have been EDFs director of international affairs supporting other nuclear business around the world.
