Space Park Leicester Facilities

CDF
The CDF enables ‘concurrent engineering’ based on teamwork and focused on a common design model that evolves iteratively in real time as the different subsystem experts provide their contributions. Designers and customers agree on requirements and take decisions in real time to allow the best design for the right cost and within the programmatic constraints.
The process has been developed and honed so it is now common to produce a costed, risk-assessed...

NERC Environmental Data Service

Submitted by AndreaSharpe on Fri, 12/18/2020 - 12:17

The Natural Environment Research Council  (NERC) Environmental Data Service (EDS) provides a focal point for NERC's scientific data and information.   The EDS consists of a network of environmental data centres.  These centres hold data covering all aspects of environmental science, gathered from environmental scientists working in the UK and around the world. The EDS are responsible for maintaining environmental data and making them available to all users, not just NERC researchers but others...

Rock Volume Characterisation Laboratory Cluster (British Geological Survey)

Submitted by dcondon on Wed, 08/24/2022 - 10:07

The Rock Volume Characterisation Cluster studies the structural and compositional characterisation of rocks and their constituent parts, from micron to kilometre scale. The cluster comprises a set of leading analytical capabilities and expertise, outlined below, that focus on the characterisation of materials at a range of scales and target different attributes (mineralogy, geochemistry, structure etc). Current activities in the cluster are focused on the integration of the individual...

Quantum Computing and Simulation Hub

Submitted by adi.sheward-hi… on Tue, 02/01/2022 - 09:47

The Quantum Computing and Simulation Hub (QCS Hub) is a collaboration between 17 UK universities and is one of four hubs within the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme.

Working with an extensive network of academic, industrial and governmental partners, we are focused on the critical research challenges for quantum computing, across a broad range of hardware and software disciplines.

As well as addressing the technical challenges in providing quantum computing and simulation at scale...

Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory

Submitted by marc1 on Wed, 08/31/2022 - 14:06

The Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory (RMPL) undertakes research on the properties and behaviour of rocks and geomaterials at near-surface to shallow crustal depths for applications such as: energy storage; geological disposal of nuclear waste; carbon capture and sequestration; subsurface infrastructure engineering; and fault and geohazard characterisation.

RMPL is the home of BGS’s large-scale rock deformation apparatus and specialises in standard (ISRM and ASTM) and bespoke geomechanical...

National Geoscience Data Centre

Submitted by GRBaker on Wed, 05/25/2022 - 12:40

The National Geoscience Data Centre (NGDC) is part of the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) Environmental Data Service and is hosted by the British Geological Survey (BGS). We manage nationally important datasets concerned with geology, geoscience and the sub-surface.

Our staff help researchers in ensuring that the data they produce are curated appropriately for the long term, guaranteeing their security, accessibility and re-usability for the user community.

The NGDC is certified...
