Pay your Inheritance Tax bill
Get a payment reference number
You’ll need to get an Inheritance Tax reference number from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) at least 3 weeks before you make a payment.
To make a payment for a trust
Apply for a reference number by completing form IHT122 and posting it to HMRC.
To make a payment for anything else
Apply for a reference number by either:
- using the online service (you’ll need to sign in - if you do not already have sign in details, you’ll be able to create them)
- completing form IHT422 and posting it to HMRC
