How much is a children's train ticket to London with Greater Anglia

Children going to London with Greater Anglia can travel for free if they're under 5 years or half price if they're aged 5-15 years old.

For families, children can travel from £2 each return with an adult off peak (up to 4 kids per adult). This offer isn't available if your entire journey is inside London's Zones 1-6. However, you can get this with a London Family Day Travelcard.

The London Family Day Travelcard includes your train journey and unlimited travel in Zones 1-6 on the London Underground, buses, trams and DLR (Docklands Light Railway.

What is the child train ticket age in the UK?

  • 0-4 years old - travel for free with Greater Anglia and most UK journeys.
  • 5-15 years old - eligible for a child train ticket, which gives 50% off Greater Anglia and most UK tickets. Kids can go from £2 return each when travelling with an adult off peak on Greater Anglia services.
  • 16 years old and over - eligible for adult fare.

Children should travel with an adult. However, we understand there are circumstances when a child of a certain age may need to travel alone. If you're a parent or guardian, here are some helpful tips you can give them.

Anglia Plus Rover

Our Anglia Plus tickets Get unlimited hop-on-and-off travel parts of Norfolk, and Suffolk Cambridgeshire.

  • Up to four kids aged 5-15 inclusive accompanying a fare paying adult travel for just £2 each.
  • Available online and at the station, or on a train where a ticket office is not available.
  • Only valid with Standard Off-Peak, Off-Peak Day and Super Off-Peak Day Return 'buy on the day' tickets, including GroupSave and Duo.
  • Tickets take the same restrictions as the accompanying Adult ticket. If the Adult ticket is valid to return within one month, the accompanying £2 Child ticket has the same validity. Otherwise it is only valid for one day.
  • No need to book - just turn up on the day.
  • £2 child ticket available with adult Railcard discounted tickets, but if used in conjunction with a Family & Friends Railcard, at least one child ticket has to be at the Railcard discount fare. Up to three more children can travel for £2 each.
  • Can be used for a child accompanying an Adult Season ticket holder when travelling during off-peak times.
  • Tickets are valid where we share routes with Great Northern, Thameslink and East Midlands Trains services (on the lines between Ely and Cambridge, Peterborough and Norwich). They are not valid on Cross-Country services (please use Greater Anglia, Great Northern, Thameslink or East Midlands services instead).
  • Kids for £2 tickets are not available on journeys starting or ending at Stansted Airport.
  • Within the Oyster/Contactless area, £2 tickets not available for journeys wholly within London Fare Zones 1-6. They are valid when accompanying adults using Oyster/Contactless Pay as you go travelling to or from Waltham Cross, Cheshunt, Broxbourne, Rye House, St Margarets, Ware, Hertford East and Shenfield. For travel in the Oyster area, 'Zip' child rate Oyster cards offer free or reduced child rate travel - please see the TfL website for details.
