Train Presentation

Lucia's experience

I have worked for train presentation for just over 8 years. My job is to ensure that the trains I am responsible for leave Ilford Depot cleaned inside and outside to the highest standard, so customers are happy with the environment that they travel in.

Lucia Train Presenation staff

As a member of the Train presentation team, I work shifts. At the start of my shift, I receive a list of trains which need to be cleaned, we must clean the interior and exterior of each train so it’s ready for service.

One of my main responsibilities is to organise the cleaning program, to make it an efficient operation. I run this program in relation to the existing train cleaning standard, which is part of Greater Anglia’s presentation manual. I assist the team with all other cleaning tasks including toilet cleaning and sweeping the train.

I have been trained to perform all aspects of my role to the relevant standard required and each task that I perform has a Cleaning Manual. You are required to have more in depth training in COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) to ensure you fully understand how to use safely any chemicals as part of your cleaning duties. On the job training will be provided locally depending on your location.

To work in a train presentation role, you need to have good communication skills as I speak to many customers throughout my day and I also collaborate with other departments to report any train defects or graffiti. My role is vital, as the train is an integral part of our business and the condition and environment our customers travel in is a valuable element to the customer experience. The most enjoyable part of my job is the satisfaction I get when I can step away from a train once it’s cleaned to see it’s spotless and ready to give customers a pleasant journey.

I’ve been lucky to be given personal development through our internal apprenticeship programme, I’ve nearly completed my customer service practitioner level 2. I only have one exam left and providing I pass I will have a nationally recognised qualification. If you are a hard worker and have great communication and time management skills, I would say this is the perfect role for you.
