We have designed this service to support new trade mark applicants. It provides guidance on whether your application could be successful based on the information you provide.

Whilst getting a trade mark registration is not mandatory, having a trade mark helps to stop people stealing or copying your brand or product name. The service will seek to identify registered UK marks that may be of interest to you.

It does not provide a complete summary of all the grounds on which we may reject a trade mark application. For example, the service will not identify:


We will not examine or register any proposed trade mark you submit using this service. You will still need to submit your trade mark through our 'Apply to register a trade mark' service so our examiners can consider it for registration under the Trade Marks Act 1994.
