Following the LGA General Assembly on Tuesday 7 July 2026, the LGA Green Group will be formally established.
Like the other political group offices, it will work to shape its policy work as well as parliamentary briefings and press work. It will also work with the LGA to advise on and provide improvement support, mentoring, training, and events with our network of member peers.
Notice of elections and vacancies on LGA policy committees and another bodies
Green Group members are asked to consider putting themselves forward for two sets of LGA Green Group roles:

Serving on the Group's Executive Committee
Five Exec roles are directly elected, with a further three-five roles to be filled via co-option to ensure a diversity of candidates.

Serving on the LGA policy committees, employer bodies and external appointments as LGAG representatives
Committee roles will be filled by selection by the elected Exec, based on Expressions of Interest with the purpose of ensuring effective and inclusive use of talents, skills and capacities.
Members can both stand for Exec committee elections and submit EOIs for committee roles should they wish to do so. Details on both processes follow.
Serving on the Group's Executive Committee – election run by the AGC
Nominations are sought for election to five LGA Green Group Executive Committee roles, to serve a term of two years, subject to further changes to the group's constitution.
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Attend regular LGAG Executive committee ('Exec') meetings – likely once every two months, with the location and exact requirements for attendance at these meetings to be determined by the Exec itself.
- Assist in the rapid selection of between three and five co-opted members to the Exec assist in balancing membership by region, council type, protected characteristics and experience. Please hold the lunch time of Tuesday 21 July 12.00pm-2.00pm for this purpose.
- Assist in the rapid selection of members to sit on LGA policy committees, ensuring effective and inclusive use of talents, skills and capacities. Please hold the evening of Monday 27 July 5.00pm-7.00pm for this purpose.
- Together with the directly elected Leader and Deputy Leader, to make executive decisions about the work of Greens in the LGA, within any adopted guidance, policy decisions or strategy set by the LGA Green Group membership.
- Take on additional duties as the Groups representative on LGA governance bodies (Finance and Performance Committee; Audit and Risk Assurance Committee; Human Resources and Remuneration Committee; Governance Working Group) with exact role allocations to be determined at the first Exec meeting.
Remuneration
These roles do not attract any allowance however attendance at the various governing bodies will attract a day rate allowance of £371.
Composition of the executive
Two of the five positions are reserved for people who do not identify as men (please note that the leader and deputy leader election rules as used this year also required that one of those two roles is not held by a man).
Process for putting yourself forward
Once nominations are open, please submit a statement of up to 750 words to [email protected], plus confirmed details of two nominees who are elected Green Party councillors in good standing, plus a preferred picture to accompany your statement should you wish to have a picture included.
Once the nominations have closed on 9 July, voting will open via an OpaVote link distributed by the Association of Green Councillors. Please check your personal email address as that voting link may have been sent there.

- Opening of the nominations for executive committee – After AGM on 3 July morning
- Closure of nominations for executive committee – 12.00pm 9 July
- Opening of voting by STV – 5.00pm 9 July
- Closure of voting to executive – 16 July
Dates to note
Please hold the lunchtime of Tuesday 21 July. Elected members will be required to go through the co-option process for additional members on this day. The process for appointing to policy committees based upon the Expressions of Interest will also be agreed on this date.
Please hold the evening of Monday 27 July from 5.00pm-7.00pm. Elected and co-opted members will be required to appoint to policy committees on this date. You will receive the information packs about the applicants following the meeting on 21 July.

We are looking for expression of interest for appointments to LGA policy committees and other bodies for this year.
Councillors are allowed to submit an expression of interest form for multiple policy committees, employer bodies and external appointments, but please only complete the form one time. If you submit it multiple times, only your latest submission will be considered.
