Tate Artist Copyright Service provides our members with a comprehensive copyright management service. We look after all enquiries and licensing requests: whether academic, editorial or commercial, for the use of an artist's work. We take on the complex discussions on your behalf; negotiating rights requirements, producing legally binding licences, and charging appropriate fees based on the context of the use and according to your requirements.
When becoming a member we will discuss how you are a happy for your work to be reproduced, and most importantly, areas where you are not.
We handle all enquires directly, resulting in a speedy, efficient and professional service. Years of experience has taught us that our clients appreciate quick responses.
We know the importance of having correct captioning and crediting of an artwork, as well as protection from inappropriate cropping and manipulation. We work closely with our clients and fellow cultural institutions, to ensure that the artist's requirements for the reproduction of their work are carried out to their wishes and within context of legally binding agreements.
A unique benefit of allowing Tate to represent an artist or estate is that our copyright fees are based on the specific use of the work and not on a flat fee. We find this is a more transparent and fairer way of charging a variety of clients, allowing academics to be given favourable rates versus those charged for commercial usages.
In addition to the reputational benefits resulting from the association and endorsement of Tate, we pay the artist or estate a percentage of all copyright fees received for the use of their work. Tate Images will pay any copyright fees received from the reproduction of the work directly to a designated account, reporting all usages associated with that payment, and where received, provide complimentary copies of publications and products that feature their work.

Tate Images, who administer Tate Artist Copyright Service, fulfils Tate's mission through its connections to academic, editorial and commercial clients while also fulfilling its commercial aims to maximise profit and extend the value of the Tate brand, supporting Tate's work and collection.
By becoming a member of Tate Artist Copyright Service you provide us with the ability to make images of your work, whether in Tate's collection or not, more accessible and easier to clear by third parties. This allows us to promote and share your work to a wider and more diverse audience via major publishing companies, broadcasters, academics, educators and other museums and galleries around the world.
We are always looking for innovative, collaborative and proactive ways to work more closely with our artists and our clients so that we can be responsive to their specific requirements.

When clients clear copyright permissions with Tate Images we charge the client a Copyright Fee. All fees are determined by the intended use of the artwork. In providing the Artist Copyright Service on your behalf we retain a percentage of this Copyright Fee to cover our costs, with any profit being gifted to Tate on an annual basis.
You can be assured that any and all profit generating from this service is given directly to Tate, a registered charity, which is then used to support Tate's, educational, research and conservation work; helping to support a rich exhibition and display programme, and ensuring the collection remains accessible to all.
