Tate is one of the world's leading art institutions. Tate Images is part of Tate Enterprises Ltd, the trading arm of Tate. Tate Enterprises’ mission is to maximise profits and extend the value of Tate’s brand, and to support Tate’s work and collection through books, products and services. All profits from Tate Enterprises Ltd are given to Tate each year. This plays a vital role in contributing to the upkeep of a number of departments including conservation, photography, education, research and curatorial.
Tate Images is a Member of BAPLA (British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies), the UK trade association for picture libraries and agencies. Its mission is to support, inform and protect the interests of its members on a national and international level.
Services
Access to Digital Images
Tate Images provides access and licences to a range of digital photographs, created by Tate's Photographic department, of artworks in Tate's Collection, of items in Tate Archives, of shots of all four Tate galleries and of photographs of installations and displays. A selection of high-resolution photographs (mostly of copyright-expired artworks) are available to license, purchase and download on-line, with a larger collection (mostly of in-copyright artworks) being available off-line due to third party permissions.
Copyright Agent
Tate Images also manages Tate-owned copyright in instances where artists or their estates have gifted Tate their artistic copyright in its entirety (Cecil and Elizabeth Collins) or to specific artworks in its Collection or Archives. These include certain works by Ithell Colquhoun, David Bomberg, Lucian Freud, Tristram Hiller, Victor Pasmore, Barbara Reise, Sylvia Sleigh, Stanley Spencer, Gilbert Spencer and Graham Sutherland, and the photographic collections of Eileen Agar, Vanessa Bell and Ben Nicholson.
We also provide copyright permission and licences for the reproduction of artworks on behalf of the Estates of Michael Andrews, James Boswell, Sir Jacob Epstein, Naum Gabo, Nigel Henderson, Tom Picton and John Skeaping, regardless of whether Tate owns the artistic work.
Website
Tate Images’ website at www.tate-images.com provides the ability to search for photographs of items in Tate’s Collection and Archives, as well as photographs of all four galleries and art installations and displays within Tate. Where artistic works have high-resolution photography available on-line these can be licensed, purchased and downloaded either by purchasing with a credit card or by requesting an invoice. Where high-resolution photograph is unavailable online, or the artistic work is still in copyright, these can be requested. You do not have to register or sign-in to search.
Licences
Licences for the reproduction of Tate’s photography cover the one-time, non-exclusive use of a photograph within a specific context, or within a named project or within a single edition of a publication (defined by an ISBN / ISSN number). Licences are limited to either a print run or a time period, depending on which is relevant. All our licences are governed by our Terms and Conditions

Quality
High-resolution photographs available via Tate Images are 300dpi, RGB, 8 bit, compressed jpgs with the longest edge being up to 30cm and are large enough to reproduce at up to A4. Where photographs are available on-line the exact digital file size can be located on the artistic works preview page. If your project requires TIFF files please contact us.
Metadata
All high-resolution photographs are embedded with metadata.
Delivery
All photographs are delivered either via our secure on-line facility at www.tate-images.com or via a third-party file sharing service, such as WeTransfer.
Film Licensing

Within your request please include your deadline, what the footage will be used for, the licensed period you require and the territorial distribution you would like permissions to cover.Tate Modern and Tate Britain offer a variety of locations ranging from neoclassical, Victorian and brutalist, urban/contemporary spaces as well as exterior balconies and landscape areas with great views.
These locations can be hired for films, TV and photo shoots. Parking spaces can be booked in advance.

PERSONAL PRINTS
Direct links (a 'Buy a personal print' button) to purchase personal and customised prints can be located on an artworks preview page, underneath the image. This link will direct you to either Tate's Custom Print service, or a third party print website.
Tate's online Custom Prints service offers high quality, framed or unframed reproductions of a selection of Tate collection artworks, as well as reproductions of works from our temporary exhibitions programme for a limited time. Click here to find out more.
Where artworks from Tate's collection are not available via Tate's Custom Prints service the link will take you to a third party service, either Fine Art America or Pixels.com both of which offer a print-on-demand service with manufacturing and distribution centers around the world. Copyright clearance
Many of the artistic works in Tate’s collection are in copyright, with copyright lasting the life of the artist plus 70 years from the end of the year of their death. This copyright is a separate right within the artworks itself and is different to the copyright if any in the photographic reproduction being licensed by Tate Images. It is the client's responsibility to obtain permission from the artwork’s copyright holder or their agent before a reproduction of any artwork is made. Non-clearance constitutes an infringement of copyright, except where one or more of the statutory exceptions applies.
Credits
Any reproduction of the content must credit the artist, estate or their representative, and Tate. As part of the terms and conditions of the supply of images and authorising their use, you will be provided with the appropriate credit lines to use.
Metadata / Watermarks
All the photographs visible on Tate Images are embedded with metadata, while all our preview images are visibly watermarked with Tate’s logo. It is an offence under copyright law or databases regulations to remove or alter in any way any watermark, technical protection or rights management identification applied by Tate to the photographs on this site without permission from Tate Images.
