Tate Images is happy to provide images for free to registered students for use within their coursework; be it presentations, research materials, or unpublished dissertations and theses. Use within published journals and books, or any further uses require additional permissions.
Images are supplied under our usual Terms and Conditions however, in those instances where the artwork is still in copyright (where the artist is still alive or has been deceased for less than 70 years), additional permission may be required. UK copyright law allows for limited copying of material for private study and non-commercial research, but it is your responsibility to satisfy yourself that your use is covered by these exceptions. To request images please register with a school/college/university email address and enter your school/college/university name in the Company field and select Student from the Company Type dropdown. If you do not have a school/college/university email please e-mail us directly.
Once registered, search for the artwork required and go to its main preview page. To the right of the image, select how you wish to use the image from the Media dropdown, then click 'Add to order'. Finally click 'Added to order. Go to checkout', scroll-down and press 'Checkout'. Please provide a description of your coursework, course name, college etc, and click 'Request Images'.
If already registered, make sure you change your Company type to Student in My Account, Update Account.
PLEASE NOTE: YOUR STUDENT ACCOUNT WILL ONLY BE ACTIVE FOR ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF REGISTRATION. TO REACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT PLEASE EMAIL US DIRECTLY.
