Group visits

Choose from the list of private guided tours for groups or individuals below. 

These tours will allow you to see and learn about the highlights of the Museum's collection. These tours are for adult audiences and are delivered in English.

• Explore some of the most famous objects on display at the Museum, including the Rosetta Stone, Lewis Chessmen and the Parthenon frieze, as well as some lesser-known but equally fascinating objects.
• Allow 90 minutes for the tour.
• Please note that this tour involves visiting a number of galleries on different floors of the Museum with a considerable amount of walking.

• This tour has a minimum cost of £270 for groups of 15 people or less.
• For larger groups, there is a charge of £18 per head.
• Each tour has a capacity of 20 people.

• Discover a fascinating selection of objects with LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) connections. The tour ranges from the ancient world to the present day, and includes some of the most famous artworks on display.
• Allow 70 minutes for the tour.

• This tour has a minimum cost of £140 for groups of 10 people or less.
• For larger groups, there is a charge of £14 per head.
• Each tour has a capacity of 15 people.

• Discover the way the world was understood by Europeans in the 18th century, tracing the beginning of the British Museum and its collection.
• Allow one hour for the tour.

• This tour has a minimum cost of £180 for groups of 15 people or less.
• For larger groups, there is a charge of £12 per head.
• Each tour has a capacity of 20 people.

• Be amazed by the world of ancient Egypt through monumental stone sculpture, including the colossal statue of Ramesses II.
• Allow one hour for the tour.

• Each tour has a capacity of 20 people.

• Explore highlights from the classical Greek world, including statues, painted pottery and the world-famous Parthenon frieze.
• Allow one hour for the tour.

• For larger groups, there is a charge of £12 per head.
• Each tour has a capacity of 20 people.

• All groups of 10 people or more must book in advance before visiting the British Museum.

There's no fee for visiting the Museum or for making a group booking.

Tour groups who haven't booked in advance won't be turned away but may be denied immediate entry.

• Tour groups must book their visit at least seven days in advance.
• Groups without a booking made at least seven days in advance may be denied immediate entry.

• Tour groups should stick to their booking time wherever possible.
• The Museum will endeavour to grant access for late running tour groups but immediate entry can't be guaranteed.

• Tour group leaders bringing fewer people than originally booked are requested to inform the uniformed member of Museum staff welcoming groups on arrival.
• Tour group leaders bringing more people than originally booked will need to make an additional booking.

• Tour group bookings are for the arrival time only.
• Once inside, there's no limit on the time tour groups can spend in the Museum, subject to the Museum's opening and closing times.

Guiding in the following galleries isn't permitted:

• Room 33: China and South Asia (Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery)
• Room 33a: India: Amaravati (The Asahi Shimbun Gallery)
• Room 33b: Chinese jade (The Selwyn and Ellie Alleyne Gallery)
• Room 61: Egyptian life and death: the tomb-chapel of Nebamun (The Michael Cohen Gallery)
• Rooms 62–63: Egyptian death and afterlife: mummies (The Roxie Walker Galleries)
• Rooms 91 and 91a: Admonitions Scroll

Non-Museum guided tours and tour groups, regardless of size, will not be permitted in any exhibitions. See ticket terms and conditions and our Visitor guidelines and conditions of entry.

• The Montague Place entrance is accessible to all visitors.
• Groups using the Disabled Parking facilities at the front of the Museum will be permitted to enter via the Main entrance.
• More details of the Museum's accessibility provisions can be found on the Accessibility at the Museum page. 

All groups arriving at the front gates will be directed to use the Montague Place entrance, even if they have already checked in.
