1) Commission to introduce Financial Risk Assessments in staged approach
The Commission has announced the introduction of Financial Risk Assessments (FRAs) which will be implemented in stages to identify customers in financial difficulties and streamline and improve operator processes.
In a blog, Commission Director of Major Policy Projects and Evaluation Helen Rhodes has provided further information and answered a number of common questions on the introduction of FRAs.
2) Commission publishes third annual Gambling Survey for Great Britain
The Commission has published the third annual report from the Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB) providing three consecutive years of official statistics from 2023 to 2025 on gambling participation, behaviours, attitudes and consequences across Great Britain.
Produced by the National Centre for Social Research and the University of Glasgow, GSGB is one of the world's largest dedicated gambling surveys, with around 20,000 respondents each year.
In a blog, Commission Head of Statistics Helen Bryce also introduces new trend data following the publication of the third annual report from the GSGB.
3) Upcoming LCCP change - removal of non-compliant gaming machines
Following consultation, a new licence condition (Licence Condition 18.1.1) will be introduced for non-remote gambling operators, with the provision coming into force on 29 July 2026.
The condition will require gambling businesses to remove non-compliant gaming machines from their premises upon receipt of written notification from the Commission.
You can read more about this change, including the final wording of the condition, in the consultation response published in January 2026.
4) Matt Losing appointed as new Chair of the Lived Experience Advisory Panel
The Commission is pleased to announce that Matt Losing has been appointed as the new Chair of the Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) and will take over the role this summer. Matt has been part of LEAP for the past two years and has now been nominated by his peers to lead the panel.
Matt will take over from Co-Chairs Sue Cox and Leon Green, who have held the position over the last 18 months.
On his appointment, Matt has said: “I’m honoured to take on the role of Chair of the LEAP Panel. I’d like to thank the previous Chairs for their leadership, as well as the current Panel members and colleagues across the Gambling Commission for their continued commitment and expertise. I look forward to working together to ensure the Panel continues to provide valuable insight and constructive challenge in support of the Commission’s work.”
