Are you an artist aged 18 to 24? Are you interested in exploring and shaping the future of digital technologies at the British Museum?
If so, why not join our inaugural Young Digital Cohort (YDC): a bold, youth-led programme responding to the British Museum's growing commitment to exploring digital technologies and to placing young artists at the centre of that exploration.
Recruitment for the 2026 programme has now ended. Please follow @bmyoungpeople on Instagram for other opportunities.

Led by four established digital artists, the programme places young creatives at the forefront of the Museum's exploration of digital technologies, experimentation and new approaches to making and archiving work. Participants will work closely with artists, technologists and Museum staff to explore practices such as 3D modelling, image mapping, XR, VR painting and creative coding, using the Museum collection as raw material for new digital artworks.
At the heart of the YDC are big questions the Museum is actively grappling with:
- How do we archive digital work in meaningful ways?
- What does it mean to reinterpret historical objects today?
- How can collections be reimagined through contemporary digital practices?
Rather than offering a fixed curriculum, the programme is intentionally open and exploratory. Young artists are encouraged to follow their own interests, test ideas, share works in progress and take creative risks working independently or collaboratively.
How does it work?
Running from April to November, the YDC will meet twice a month on Saturdays. Travel and refreshments are provided. Work developed during the programme will be shared online and may also be presented within Museum spaces. No previous experience or qualifications needed.
This is a space for experimentation, critical thinking and creative growth and an opportunity for young people to help shape how digital art, technology and museum collections connect in the future.
