NHS population screening: information for trans and non-binary people

Information about the NHS population screening programmes available to transgender and non-binary people in England. Read and print in full, or by programme chapter.

  1. Changed heading to 'information for trans and non-binary people'. Added information on HPV self-testing to the cervical screening section.

  2. Restructuring of pages, providing content by chapter as well as all together, for ease of reading and printing. Also, some small textual amendments to 'Bowel cancer screening invitation process' (outlining screening cohort update) and 'Cervical cancer screening invitation (outlining screening interval update).

  3. Updating screening interval to 5 years for ages 25 to 64.

  4. Changed content type to guidance.

  5. Removed PHE contact email address and screening helpdesk information. Updated the cervical screening section with information on invitation opt ins and to reflect the latest standard leaflet content in HTML and PDF for print.

  6. Information on bowel scope screening removed as this is no longer part of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

  7. Updating confidentiality section, replacing mention of Public Health England with NHS England.

  8. Addition of plain A4 PDF version for printing, to provide for people unable to access this information online.

  9. Addition of HTML version of leaflet.

  10. First published.

Screening providers should make this information available to trans and non-binary people to inform them about:

  • breast screening
  • cervical screening
  • abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening
  • bowel screening

Information for trans and non-binary people about each screening programme is also provided as PDFs to print out for those who need it.
