- 'Fui', 'fuiste' and 'fue' mean 'I went, 'you went' and 'she, he, it went' respectively.

- There is no word in Spanish for ‘on’ before a day of the week. Instead, the definite articles 'el' and 'los' are used.

Common misconception
'Fue' means 'I went'.
'Fui' means 'I went' and 'fue' means 'she, he, it went'. The two have similar spelling so are easily confused.

Teachers can make use of transitional moments during lessons to encourage pupils to use these two verbs in the preterite. The questions '¿Dónde/Adónde fuiste?' and '¿Qué hiciste?' can be used frequently as questions pupils can ask and answer in pairs to build oral confidence and fluency.
