Slow authentication

20/10/10 c. 4pm - Shibboleth authentication currently seems to be running very slowly - we are investigating the problem. Please allow several minutes(!) for authentication to complete.

New CIDER server

We have transitioned the CIDER service to new hardware at MIMAS. If you are reading this, then the move was a success! All features should work exactly as before, although the mapping facility is currently being updated and is not available.

New CIDER book published!

A new book - Technologies for Migration and Commuting Analysis: Spatial Interaction Data Applications - edited by and with significant contributions from the CIDER team, is now available to purchase from IGI Global.

New CIDER Migration Classification Geography Available

A geodemographic district level classification based upon migration variables is now available as a new geography in . The classification has been developed by CIDER as a new framework for analysing migration flows. For full details, read the associated working paper here.

New UK time series estimates added

Two sets of inter-NUTS2 region migration estimates for the whole UK have been added to WICID. The first mid 1999 to mid 2007; the second calendar year 2000 to 2007. These data have been created as part of the ESPON DEMIFER project and enable sub-national, inter-regional migration flows to be examined for a consistent time series for the first time.

Additional 2001 commuting data added

Two additional data sets have been added to WICID, which show commuting flows to Output Areas in London

2001 C0310 details flows from wards in London to OAs in London
2001 C0311 details flows from districts in England and Wales to OAs in London

Loss of service

We have suffered from a service loss today (9/7/09), following the failure of a shared storage controller early this morning.

Staff at MIMAS are working to restore service to CIDER and other MIMAS hosted services.

Patient register data updated

New 2008 migration data derived from Patient Registers have been added to the system. This now creates a time series of mid-year, rounded, migration flows between districts in England and Wales from 1999-2008. Also available to download with these data are accompanying populations at risk (see the WICID help system for details on how to download population data with your flows).

CIDER website update

The CIDER website has been updated in accordance with the new Census Portal. Amongst the new features are a revised (and easier) general query builder. Please contact a member of the CIDER team if you have any queries about the site revision, or come across anything that does not appear to work as expected.

Census User Survey

WICID downtime

WICID was unavailable yesterday (Nov 1st) when the database server crashed and failed to restart properly after a seperate failure at MIMAS. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to users.

2001 data: Local Authority data sets

Interaction data sets at local authority level were formally released on 21st October, 2004. They will be available through WICID shortly.

2001 datasets available

Output area level data sets from the 2001 Census are now available through WICID.

1991 SWS Sets A and B available

The Special Workplace Statistics Sets A and B, from the 1991 Census, are now available through WICID.

CIDS have taken delivery of the first origin-destination data sets from the 2001 Census, and these will be available shortly.

2001 data: latest news

The SWS are now scheduled for release in stages over the period April-July 2004, starting with the Output Area level data.

Emergency MIMAS downtime

Emergency downtime has been scheduled for February 3rd. The irwell server (on which our software runs) will be down for two hours (or more) from 9am to replace cooling fans. WICID will be unavailable during this time.

Temporary problems logging in to WICID

Users may have experienced problems logging in to WICID around 2:30 - 2:45pm on 5/11/03. We apologise for this fault.

1981 Data sets expanded and renamed

The 1981 data sets have been given revised, more useful names. In addition an extra 1981 SWS data set has been added, with more data to be added over the summer.

MIMAS "At Risk" period - 1st July 2003

Due to a network router upgrade taking place at Manchester Computing on Tuesday July 1st, all MIMAS services will be "at risk" from 7.30 am until 9.00am.
