In this B2 Upper-Intermediate English listening lesson, you'll hear Simon describe how he learned five or six languages while living in different parts of the world, including Western Europe, the Middle East and Hong Kong. He explains the practical methods he used to improve his language skills and become confident in communicating with local people.

As you listen, you'll learn about language-learning strategies such as practising through everyday conversations, watching weather reports and game shows, reading newspapers, using dictionaries, and preparing useful phrases before speaking to native speakers.

This lesson helps you develop important listening skills, including listening for specific information, understanding a speaker's experiences and opinions, identifying learning strategies, and following extended spoken explanations. You'll also build vocabulary related to language learning, communication, fluency and everyday conversation.
