Nature Recovery Data Management Officer

Do you enjoy turning data into meaningful insights and helping shape the future of wildlife conservation? If so, we’re looking for a Nature Recovery Data Management Officer to join our Land Management Section and play a key role in supporting nature recovery across the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

 

Working with colleagues and partner organisations, you’ll develop and manage ecological data and GIS systems that help us understand, monitor and report on the condition of habitats and species throughout the National Park. Your work will provide the evidence that helps shape conservation priorities and informs important decisions about the future of one of the country’s most iconic protected landscapes.

The Role

 

This is a varied role that combines data management, GIS, analysis and partnership working. You will:

  • Develop and manage ecological and spatial datasets that support nature recovery work across the National Park
  • Maintain systems that record, monitor and report progress against our nature recovery objectives
  • Analyse habitat and species data to produce reports, statistics and insights
  • Help develop GIS systems and processes that support colleagues across the Land Management Section
  • Work closely with Local Environmental Record Centres and other partners to improve data sharing and collaboration
  • Contribute to habitat suitability and predictive modelling that helps inform conservation priorities

 

About You

 

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with data and has the skills to turn information into meaningful evidence and insight. You’ll have:

  • Experience of working on GIS or data management projects
  • Experience of managing and validating datasets
  • Strong GIS skills and an understanding of spatial data
  • Knowledge of data protection and data sharing requirements
  • Advanced Microsoft 365 skills
  • A Level 4 qualification (or above) in a GIS-related subject

 

A degree-level qualification in ecology, wildlife conservation or a related subject would be an advantage but isn’t essential.

 

Most importantly, you’ll share our commitment to nature conservation and enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve positive outcomes for wildlife and habitats.

Do you have a talent for storytelling and a strong understanding of media and public relations? If so, we’re looking for a PR & Communications Officer to join our Communications Team.

 

As part of our small, collaborative and high-performing team, you’ll help shape and share compelling stories, deliver impactful PR and communications activity, build positive media relationships and support the Authority’s reputation through effective internal and external communications.

 

This is a varied and rewarding role spanning media relations, content creation, campaign delivery, publications, digital communications and reputation management. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the Authority, provide expert communications advice, respond to media enquiries and help ensure staff, Members, stakeholders and the public remain informed and engaged.

The Role

 

This is a varied role that combines strategic communications, media relations and content creation. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the Authority communicates effectively with a wide range of audiences. You’ll also lead the production of the Authority’s flagship publications, including Visitor magazine and Dales newspaper, working with contributors, designers and colleagues across the organisation.

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Developing and delivering communications activity that supports the Authority’s priorities, programmes and campaigns.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with local, regional and national media, helping to secure positive coverage and respond to media enquiries.
  • Creating, editing and commissioning content across a wide range of channels and formats.

 

 

About You

 

We’re looking for an experienced communications professional who enjoys variety, builds positive relationships and has a flair for turning complex information into clear, engaging content.

 

Whether your experience is in communications, PR, marketing, journalism or a related field, you’ll be a confident writer and communicator who is comfortable working with colleagues, partners, stakeholders and the media.

 

You’ll have experience of delivering successful communications projects and campaigns, creating content for a range of print and digital channels, and building effective professional relationships.

 

Experience of using audience insight, analytics and evaluation tools to measure impact would be an advantage but isn’t essential.

 

You’ll also need access to a car or other means of mobility support to meet the travel requirements of the role (if driving, you must hold a current valid driving licence and appropriate insurance).

 

Most importantly, you’ll share our enthusiasm for the Yorkshire Dales and understand the value of meaningful communications in helping people connect with this special place.

The Role

This is a newly created role, giving you the opportunity to shape and develop it from the outset and become a key member of our finance team.

 

Working alongside experienced and supportive colleagues who are committed to delivering a high-quality finance service across the Authority, you’ll play a key role in helping managers make informed financial decisions. You will:

  • Partner with Section Heads to shape budgets and provide financial insight that supports effective decision-making
  • Monitor revenue and capital budgets, including in-year changes
  • Provide practical financial advice and training to non-financial managers
  • Produce clear, accurate reports and statutory returns
  • Lead internal audit and support external audit processes
  • Keep up to date with CIPFA guidance and relevant legislation
  • Support improvements to financial systems and processes
  • Line manage and support the development of a Finance Officer
  • Deputise for the Head of Finance when required

 

About You

You’ll be a qualified accountant who enjoys working collaboratively and making financial information accessible to others.

 

We’re particularly interested in candidates who bring:

  • A CCAB qualification (CIPFA is particularly relevant in this role)
  • Experience producing clear, reliable financial management information
  • Strong analytical and spreadsheet skills
  • Confidence working with non-financial colleagues and senior stakeholders
  • The ability to explain financial information in a clear, practical way
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and improving systems

 

This role could suit someone looking for more flexibility, a move into the public sector, or simply the chance to use their skills in an organisation where they can see the impact of their work.

 

Experience in capital accounting or the public sector would be helpful, but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with experience gained in either the public or private sector.
