Security best practice
Discretion is vital. You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or a close family member.
Before you apply, we advise you to consider setting up a separate email address for your contact with us, to ensure your personal and application correspondence remain separate. Try to avoid having identifying features in your email address, such as your first and/or surname and date of birth. This is good practice and will help you to securely manage your application with us. You should also not reference any past UKIC employment or any family or other connections you may have in our agencies on your application.
Overseas travel advice
If you are considering applying to MI5, please be aware we would strongly advise that you do not book new travel to Russia, Belarus, China (including Hong Kong), North Korea or Iran, or use any airline owned by these countries. We would also advise that you do not transit through these countries. Travel to or through these countries can impact vetting outcomes. If travel is already booked, please contact the recruitment team.
You should only launch your application from within the UK. Applying from outside of the UK will impact on our ability to progress your application. If you’re travelling abroad while your MI5 application is being processed, please remove any information related to your application from the phones and devices you take with you.
Working for us means that there will be countries that you should not travel to for the duration of your employment. Advice not to travel to these countries may extend beyond employment. You will receive more information on this if you receive a Conditional Offer of Employment.
