Experienced Hires
Your skills are our asset
Whether you are returning to work after time raising a family, or looking for a career change, MI5 need your skills and experience to help keep the country safe.
The breadth of opportunity at MI5 is second to none. Whether you are a corporate professional such as a lawyer or accountant, a specialist such as a psychologist, or an IT expert, we can offer you the opportunity to apply your skills in an equivalent MI5 role.
Alternatively, you might seek to translate your skills and experience to one of our unique intelligence roles, using your interpersonal skills as an agent handler, or using your project management background to ensure the smooth running of a complex counter terrorism investigation.
Experienced applicants may also choose to apply to one of our graduate development programs where, depending on performance, a successful applicant has the potential to be fast tracked to a more senior role.
There is no such thing as a standard MI5 career path so if you’re looking for a change in direction then MI5 has the potential to offer you a highly varied and stimulating career. And whatever job you find yourself in, you will be directly contributing to keeping the country safe.
Vetting Officers
Vetting Officers carry out extensive and thorough interviews with potential recruits and existing staff to explore everything about them before carefully making a decision about their suitability to hold the highest form of security clearance necessary for government positions, Developed Vetting (DV) status.
Procurement Professionals
We employ Procurement Professionals at all levels who have access to a broad range of spend categories and projects, some you might be familiar with, but others that are unique to our organisation.
Agent Handlers

Administrative Officers
Our Administrative Officers work across a variety of departments each offering a range of roles providing essential support to our officers. This is an ideal role for a school leaver, people coming back to work after a career break or those looking for a change of career.
Auditors
We employ Auditors at all levels to deliver risk-based audits across a number of business areas including operational, security, financial and organisational risks.
Occupational Psychologists
Our Occupational Psychologists are involved in a wide range of activities that play an important role in ensuring we find and keep the right people. This includes clarifying role requirements, creating job descriptions, designing assessment centre materials, auditing and advising on internal selection processes and designing recruitment campaigns. They also advise, guide and train assessors, managers and the recruitment teams on areas such as fairness, consistency and best practice.
Lawyers
Our Lawyers find practical solutions to complex legal problems and deal with high profile litigation. They advise colleagues in relation to highly sensitive investigative and operational matters and are involved with legal challenges covering the full range of MI5’s responsibilities.
