Cancelling your VAT registration (VAT Notice 700/11)

  1. A link to information to help you tell HMRC about an option to tax on property before cancelling your VAT registration has been added to section 2.7.

  2. Section 8.2 completing your final VAT return and section 9.5 how to claim have been updated.

  3. Section 1.2 of VAT Notice 700/11: cancelling your registration has been amended as reference to schedule 2 of the VAT Act 1994 has been removed and reference to schedules 9ZA and 9ZC added. Information about a direction made under Regulation 25(4AA) of the VAT Regulations 1995 to extend the due date for submitting a final return has also been added.

  4. The timescale for a reply has been updated.

  5. We have removed an old postal address from the 'Help us improve this notice' section. You can find relevant contact details on the 'VAT: general enquiries' contact page.

  6. The VAT supplement has been updated to show current and previous rates for VAT limits and thresholds for taxable supplies and registration cancellation.

  7. This page has been updated because the Brexit transition period has ended.

  8. The address has been updated for if you find it difficult to use the online authorisation process and require help and where you send registrations if you do not want to use the online service.

  9. Details about cancelling your VAT registration online have been updated.
